Locus Of Control

Locus of Control (LoC) is an individual’s belief system about the causes of their experiences and the factors to which that person attributes their own success or failure. Those with internal LoC use “I statements” such as “I know it’s up to me,” “I have to learn how to become more successful.” They clearly believe that it’s essentially up to them to succeed. The “externals” say things like “it’s too hard to succeed these days,” or “my boss’s demands are crushing me.” This group generally believes that luck, fate, or circumstance would more likely determine whether or not they would become successful, more than the strength and quality of their own efforts. Where is your locus of control? How do you see your orientation playing out at work?
