ADKAR: A Successful Model For Change

Image-empty-state.png

Change is hard for employees. The name ADKAR® is an acronym that is based on five building blocks that bring about successful and lasting change. The letters are sequential and stand for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement.

Created by Prosci founder Jeff Hiatt, ADKAR outlines the goals and outcomes of change which equips leaders to facilitate change  and supports employees to be part of the change.

It an employee-oriented approach that focuses on human behavior. It helps employees to move through the current stage (Awareness and Desire), the transition stage (Knowledge and Ability) and the future state (Reinforcement). The first three stages are the enablement zone being employees need to be enabled or helped to get through the change. The last two stages are the engagement zone meaning employees are embracing the change on their own and helping it move forward.
